Celebrating National Social Prescribing Day
This Wednesday, March 13th, we're excited to welcome local social prescribers to Bell View to celebrate National Social Prescribing Day (14th March). Join us from 11am-1pm for tea, coffee, soup and conversations about the work Carol and Jan undertake in our area.
If you're not yet familiar with social prescribing, it's an innovative approach to healthcare that recognizes many factors impacting our wellbeing can't be treated by medicine alone. Social prescribers connect individuals to a wide range of non-medical support to address issues like loneliness, isolation, debt, housing problems, and more.
Social prescribing aims to address the root causes affecting someone's mental and physical health, rather than tackling the symptoms. Link workers collaborate with people one-on-one to develop tailor-made solutions by prescribing everything from community activities and exercise programs to debt counselling, housing assistance, social clubs and much much more.
The results speak for themselves: numerous studies show social prescribing leads to improved quality of life, emotional wellbeing, and better self-management of conditions like anxiety and depression. It reduces burden on the healthcare system while and empowers individuals and communities.
We're delighted that the team are joining us this year to highlight the transformative social prescribing work occurring within our community. Learn about the services and support available and find out how to get involved as a volunteer, participant or advocate.
